Shiraz 2016

$50.00

A warm season presented us with low yields of intensely concentrated Shiraz fruit. Barrel selection consisted of the darkest and richest wines resulting in an intensely concentrated Shiraz that will certainly reward ageing or be enjoyed today with generous decanting.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Intense garnet

Aroma: The nose shows powerful up front Shiraz with intense red fruit and plums, earth and straw, coffee and complex dusty mineral notes with a subtle floral lift from the Viognier.

Palate: The palate opens with intense plum and gunmetal building to rich layered red fruits. The wine is dark and rich yet silky through the palate with well balanced cedar and vanilla attributable to the new oak component. Textural savoury tannins and bright acidity give a long clean finish.

Closure: Diam

Technical Notes

Shiraz bunches were sourced from close planted vines on our west block cropped at 1.6 tonnes per acre. Bunches were destemmed and crushed for fermentation in open topped stainless steel fermenters. A small quantity of Viognier was introduced to the ferments for aromatic lift. Following fermentation with cultured yeast, wine was transferred to the cellar for maturation in French and Hungarian wood, predominantly French and 30% new. The wine was matured for 18 months before bottled without fining or filtration.
