Pinot Noir Three 2017

$100.00

Pinot Noir Three originates in the ‘Triangle’ block which is immediately east of the winery and is approximately half an acre. This is a unique plot of MV6 and 777 clones which sits geographically in the Yarra Valley but is geologically aligned with the Côte de Nuits. In 2003, the block was excavated and the subsoil was replaced with the addition of 250 tonnes of lime stone rubble. After returning the topsoil, the block was fallowed and close-planted with vines on a 10,000 plant per hectare grid (one metre separation).

Tasting Notes

Closure: Diam

Technical Notes

Because of the close spacing the vines are entirely hand tended with single canes pruned to only six buds, which translates to even lower yields than in the main vineyard. Extremely small bunches were destemmed but left intact for 100% whole-berry fermentation. After the slow fermentation and pressing, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels (30% new). The wine was left to mature for 14 months before being bottled without filtration or fining. 1,400 bottles made.
