Viognier 2017

$55.00

This wine is inspired by the classic wines of Condrieu. The aromatics are reminiscent of the French wine with spicy notes and a complex layered palate. This wine is an excellent match for a wide spectrum of foods, from rich traditional French cuisine through to modern Southeast Asian dishes with spice and flair.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Bright green-gold

Aroma: The aroma is bold and inviting. The wine shows a profound contrast between ripe stone fruit characters and complex green spice aromas. Opulent vanilla pod, musk, floral notes and pear are paired with subtle notes of green Szechuan, star anise, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Palate: The wine is rich and far reaching, creamy and textural with a voluptuous mouth feel. The aromas are more intensely revisited through the palate with overt characters of apricots, peach and spicy poached pear.

Closure: Diam

Technical Notes

Our Viognier vines are planted in the Rhône block with rows facing north and sloping slightly to the northwest. The planting comprises 1.6 acres of Château-Grillet clone. These ultra-low yielding vines cropped at 1 tonne per acre. Bunches were destemmed, crushed and pressed with brief skin contact providing essential structural and aromatic characters. The juice was transferred to stainless steel and inoculated with cultured yeast. Following fermentation, the wine was matured for eleven months in 2nd and 3rd  year French barriques prior to bottling.
