Our flagship Rhône style red, Grouch is made with select parcels of Syrah fruit from our west facing block and co-fermented with whole-bunch Marsanne pressings. Reminiscent of Hermitage, the wine is complex and elegantly structured.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Purple
Aroma: Reminiscent of Hermitage, the wine has an unmistakable perfume combining dense dark fruits and notes of mineral earth and dried herbs.
Palate: Seamless layers of dark fruit are set against a backdrop of abundant but gentle savoury tannin. This one will reward long cellaring but can be enjoyed now, at its best after a long decant.

Technical Notes
Select bunches of Syrah were sourced from our west facing block and co-fermented with Marsanne (6%) from the Rhône block. The Marsanne was crushed and its stalks retained before the Syrah was destemmed and crushed right on top. The wine was inoculated with cultured yeast and fermentation took place in small open top fermenters. Once fermentation was complete, the must was pressed off and the wine transferred to the cellar for 19 months’ maturation in two-year old and older French oak barriques. After two rackings, the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
