Pinot Noir Four 2018

Pinot Noir Four sits firmly at the darkest and most concentrated end of the Pimpernel Pinot Noir spectrum. Made exclusively with hand selected whole bunches of Mv6, Pinot Noir Four is a wine that can be decanted and enjoyed now, or savoured for many years to come.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep Ruby

Aroma: After 2 hours of breathing, P4 begins to hint at the plethora of characters hidden within. The primary fruit profile offering wild strawberry and dark plums evolving to red rose petals and nettles. Further still; blackberry frangipane and roast parsnip, the new oak showing in all its glory, adding notes of pine and cedar.

Palate: The palate is as one would expect from Four – sheer pinot power. The red and dark fruit characters are lush and full, contrasted beautifully by tight dusty tannins, stalk spice and notes of dark roasted coffee. The hero, however, is not intensity of fruit, but the persistent acidity which underscores and harmonises the wine for a seemingly endless finish.

Closure: Diam

Technical Notes

Mv6 bunches were selectively sourced from the main block. Bunches were fermented in a stainless-steel vat with indigenous yeast and covered to promote carbonic maceration. Foot stomping was used to separate juice from the marc with traditional hand plunging later in the ferment. After extended fermentation the wine was basket pressed and moved to 40%+ new French oak. The wine was aged for 16 months with a single racking and no fining or filtration prior to bottling. 1,650 bottles made.
