Pinot Noir Four 2019

$90.00

Pinot Noir Four is positioned at the darkest and most concentrated end of the Pimpernel spectrum, and this is the fifth release since 2015. Made exclusively with hand-selected whole bunches of MV6 clone, this bold and intense Pinot Noir is a wine that can be decanted and enjoyed now, or savoured for many years to come.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep ruby.

Bouquet: This youthful wine is slow to unravel its brooding layers. Intense fleshy cherry, bramble fruit, blood plum, rhubarb, and rose petal, entwine with rye bread, soft cedar, rich spices, cocoa powder, fresh earth, river stones and meadow grasses, over time in the glass.

Palate: The elegant palate is concentrated with fleshy dark fruits and savoury flavours, fine mouth-filling astringency and a lingering seam of youthful acidity. Coiled and well-structured, the powdery-textured tannins throughout the palate demonstrate its restrained power. The intense and persistent finish remains brooding and complex, with a gentle hint of quality oak and charry wood-toast. Excellent cellaring potential for those with will-power.

Closure: Diam.

Technical Notes

Fruit for Pinot Noir Four was selectively sourced from MV6 clone in the main Pinot Noir block. Whole bunches (35%) were layered under destemmed whole-berry fruit in a stainless-steel vat, then covered to induce carbonic maceration and fermentation with wild yeast. Towards the end of fermentation, foot stomping liberated juice from the bunches, with gentle hand plunging used later to mix the must. After 12 days on skins, the marc was basket pressed and the resulting wine was gently transferred with gravity to barrels held in our underground cellar. The wine completed natural malolactic conversion in French oak barriques (40% new). With 11 months maturation in oak, the wine was twice-racked prior to bottling. Bottled without fining or filtration.

A very limited wine: only 1500 bottles produced.

Alcohol 13.4% alc/vol.
