Shiraz 2017

$60.00

Absolutely perfect ripening conditions allowed us to slowly, and very selectively, harvest our close-grown Syrah/Shiraz block over the course of almost 4 weeks. The Shiraz 2017 represents grapes harvested in mid to late passes of the block, and for that, is rich, dark, brooding, and delicious.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Purple

Aroma: Dark and above all savoury with hints of pine needle, cedar, and kombu.

Palate: Intensely savoury and far-reaching, certainly reminiscent of powerful old-world Syrah. Despite the intensity, the palate entry is soft with subtle notes of violet and lavender, before brooding storm clouds of black coffee, plum and earthy darkness close in to reclaim the palate. This enigmatic Shiraz concludes with an extremely long savoury finish and fine cocoa powder tannins.

Closure: Diam

Technical Notes

The grapes were sourced from close planted vines on our west sloping block which cropped at 2 tonnes to the acre. Bunches were destemmed and crushed with a small portion of whole-berries retained in some vats. During destemming some hand selected stalks were re-introduced to around 30% of ferments for added spice and tannin. Following fermentation with cultured and wild yeasts, the wine was gravity fed to the cellar for maturation in charry French (95%) and Hungarian barrels and 30% new. The wine was matured for 20 months before bottled without fining or filtration.
