Viognier 2020

A textural, aromatic wine inspired by the full-bodied whites of Condrieu, the 2020 vintage is an excellent match for a wide spectrum of flavours, from traditional French cuisine through to modern Southeast Asian dishes.

Tasting Notes

Opulent aromas of apricot, honeysuckle and blossom intermingle with subtle notes of spice.   fruit aromatics with spicy notes. Brief skin and stalk contact prior to basket pressing produces a full-boded, textural wine that complements the Viognier’s signature flavours of baked apricot, rose and ginger spice. The finish is long and unctuous, with lingering notes of peach. With prominent aromatics and a ripe, layered fruit profile, this wine is ready to drink now – and with so much on offer, why resist?

Serving Suggestion: Serve room temperature or slightly chilled. Enjoy straight from the bottle – no decanting required.

Technical Notes

Our Viognier vines are planted in a single block with rows facing north and sloping slightly to the northwest. The planting comprised 1.6 acres of vines grown from cuttings taken from Yarra Yering. These ultra-low yielding vines cropped at 1.5 tonne per acre. With moderately warm and dry conditions, we hand-picked the Viognier when it offered intense flavour and bright natural acidity. Whole bunches were lightly crushed and allowed to soak for approximately one hour. This brief skin and stalk contact provided essential structural and aromatic complexity. After basket pressing, the juice was settled for several days and then wild-fermented in tank. Clarified juice was transferred by gravity to complete fermentation in four- and five-year-old French barriques. The wine was matured on lees for 14 months in barrel prior to bottling without fining or filtration (DIAM closure). Production: 1100 bottles.
